Gallery Bogart Announces Animate Ground, a Major Fall Exhibition Featuring Six Contemporary Artists

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KANSAS CITY, MO – September 16, 2025 – Gallery Bogart is pleased to announce Animate Ground, a group exhibition opening on October 4, featuring new and recent works by Jo Archuleta, Mónica Figueroa, Lizzie Ingram, Lucky Moe, SunYoung Park, and SK Reed. The exhibition will be on view through November 29, 2025, with an opening reception on Saturday, October 4, from 5-8 pm.

Animate Ground brings together six artists who share a guiding intuition: that the material world is not passive, but an active, living entity. Their work emerges from a process of negotiation between artistic intent and the inherent properties of their materials, treating pigment and clay as active participants in creation. The title refers to this foundational principle: that the ‘ground’—whether physical, pictorial, or psychological—is a generative force.

This inquiry unfolds across the exhibition in a variety of forms. Figures dissolve into their environments, their boundaries rendered permeable. Sculptural works evoke the biomorphic processes of the natural world, while human and animal forms are woven together, suggesting a shared, instinctual kinship. The artists’ intuitive handling of their materials invites a mode of understanding that is both sensory and elemental.

Ultimately, Animate Ground is an exhibition that values the felt over the seen, finding profound meaning in the quiet but persistent forces that animate our world.
